Finding internal rhythms becomes an important part of the search that happens during the process of painting. I use the drum as a tool for discovering rhythms within myself. I have associated specific colors to hits on the drum (base hits are black, tone hits are white, and slap hits are red). Along with these rhythms abstracting the physical and cultural landscapes enables me to reference architectural elements within my environment. Alternative building materials help generate my imagery, and the act of painting becomes a recorded experience of how I interpret my surroundings.
