Terry Arthur is one of those rare artists who seem to have a near magical understanding of his medium. He coaxes exquisite bowls, platters and vases from pieces of wood that, to many of us, are pieces good only for the woodpile.
Terry has won many awards and been the featured artist in numerous galleries. He has a sixth sense about what will emerge from a burl of wood. His delicately thin bowls ringed with bark seem impossibly held together. His platters and vases elegantly follow the rings and curves in the wood. It is easy to get lost in one of his pieces - to follow the uneven edge toward the center of a piece or trace the color as it changes from light to dark.
I often come across felled trees that show me what has been hiding inside - and then my imagination begins the work.
Terry lives and creates in Tallahassee, Florida.
